Understand what is the feng shui Kua number and how to use

The Kua number is very popular in feng shui. It is both a concept and a tool, and even though mostly used in Classical feng shui schools, many people who work with the Western feng shui school also use the Kua number. What is so special about the feng shui Kua number and, more importantly, how can this Kua number info help you?

To begin with, the word Kua (same as Gua in the BaGua)  is a concept from the ancient Chinese cosmology that can be found not only in feng shui but in several Oriental martial arts. It is a very complex notion that cannot be easily translated into one Western word. The accepted (and, of course, the much simplified) meaning of the word Kua is Life Area.

Feng shui-wise, the concept of Kua number comes from the so-called Flying stars school of feng shui, which energetically divides people into the East and the West group. Each group has several Kua number types, so the East Kua number group has the numbers 1, 3, 4, 9 and the West Kua number group has 2, 5, 6, 7, 8.

How can you apply all this info and do you actually need it? Well, the most practical application of the feng shui Kua number is the fact that once you know your Kua number, you can find out your lucky and unlucky directions. This is the main reason the Kua number info is used in feng shui nowadays.

The feng shui info on one’s lucky directions is heavily used when buying a home because ideally, you want your house front door to face one of your lucky directions in order to attract the most auspicious Chi, or Universal energy. You also want to face your lucky directions at work, as well as position your bed to face one of your lucky directions. If you have a practical and healthy approach to all these feng shui tools, it can be interesting to apply feng shui by experiment with this info and see if it actually makes a difference to your health and well-being.

However, if you start worrying about your front door facing an unlucky direction or about you and your spouse having different Kua numbers (thus different lucky directions), then better forget about it. There is a fine line in applying feng shui, one that distinguishes between a healthy and successful approach and a fearful and ignorant one. I highly encourage you to be aware of this line when you apply feng shui and make the choice to stay on the healthy, practical and successful application of feng shui by using your best judgment.

Feng shui is an ancient knowledge (over 5,000 years old!), so you have to use your better judgment when applying this complex body of wisdom in order to achieve the results you want. I guess by now you are curious to know your feng shui Kua number, as well as your lucky feng shui directions.
